Live theatre in Centerville is closer to reality

The Daily Iowegian

---- — Centerville may soon see live theatre performed at the Majestic Theater.

Richard Talbot, founder of Off The Square Theatre Company, is taking steps to bring live shows back to Centerville. The first step was an organizational meeting held Dec. 5 at the Majestic attended by 12 “past and present theatre lovers from the community who are interested in getting the new group up and running,” Talbot said in a press release issued Wednesday.

Talbot said a second meeting at the Majestic is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 19 to elect a board of directors.

Talbot said opportunities still exist for those who would like to be involved, like helping with sets, costumes, lights, props, fundraising, public relations, marketing and website design. He encouraged anybody with an interest in those areas to attend the Dec. 19 meeting.

Talbot said auditions for the first theatre production, “Godspell,” the musical based on St. Matthew with new music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, will be held in mid-January with the play going for a six-day run March 14-16 and March 21-23.

Talbot said information concerning ticket prices and sales will be announced soon.
