Unofficial results from Tuesday night’s school board elections

CENTERVILLE — The Appanoose County Auditor's office has released the unofficial results of Tuesday night's school board elections.

A total of 837 votes were cast in the election. Votes by ward: Bus barn 246, Lakeview 133, Cincinnati 27, Exline 28, Mystic 35, Moravia 214, Moulton-Udell 120, Absentee 34.

For director at large (four year term) — Bill Matkovich (305)

Public measure A passed, receiving 91 votes for yes and 31 votes for no.

The measure posed the following question to voters: "Shall the Board of Directors of the Moulton-Udell Community School District of Appanoose and Davis County, Iowa, be authorized to levy a physical plant and equipment property tax not exceeding sixty-seven cents ($0.67) per $1,000 of assessed valuation in the District for a period of ten years commencing with the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012 and continuing ten years thereafter?"

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
