Caribbean Steel Island Party Band, Soca Jukebox, will headline this year’s Summer Splash at Rathbun Lake on Saturday, August 2. Relocated from the Dedication Site to the site between the two dams, a variety of activities will be going on all afternoon.

The poker run on the water begins at noon. The car show, sponsored by the Centerville Fire Department, is from 1 to 4 p.m. (registration is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Other activities include kids’ games beginning at 2 p.m. and boats and campers on display all day. Food is available throughout the day on site.

Local band, Static, will kick-off the stage entertainment at 3 p.m. Soca Jukebox will take the stage at 7 p.m.

Static plays classic and modern rock hits. Band members include Bob Ballard from Oskaloosa--guitar and vocals; Roger Todd from Knoxville--bass, keyboards, and vocals; Curt Lunsford from Oskaloosa-drums and percussion; and Tim Pasa from Centerville-guitar, bass and vocals.

This is the sixth year for Summer Splash which is sponsored by the Rathbun Lake Association. The event has grown each year, with an estimated 4,000 people on land for the event last year. “Summer Splash has become the event we had hoped for when we started this six years ago,” said Rathbun Lake Association President David Howe. “Camp sites and motel rooms are full, and it is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.”

Soca Jukebox has established themselves as one of the genre's top show bands. A "standout" act for their unique instrumentation, arrangements of great musical selections, show energy, dance-ability and clean presentation, they are a highly sought-after organization of talented players, steeped in percussion performance. This group is not your typical "wallpaper" steel drum group. Soca Jukebox is a premier interactive Island Percussion Party. Each member of Soca Jukebox is a multi-instrumentalist with percussion, vocal and string backgrounds. Clay Johnston (Lead Vocal, Double Seconds), Jay Albright (Lead Pan), Ben Leimkuhler (Bass), Mark Elting (Drum Set) and Jason Riley (Guitar) make up this rare quintet. Taking their name from a popular Caribbean music style (Soca is slang for Soul Calypso), the group performs a wide variety of familiar "tropical" rock hits and traditional island favorites. They give every song a unique Latin and Reggae twist, the infectious rhythmic element that endears them to audiences.

Admission to Summer Splash is $5 for anyone over the age of six. Raffle tickets for more than $10,000 in prizes are $10. Each raffle ticket also includes one admission to Summer Splash.
