MORAVIA – The Moravia Community School was one of 64 schools in the state of Iowa to be awarded a preschool grant starting with the 2008-09 school year. After a year long process of meeting with stake holders in the community, the preschool program application was approved through a tedious process set up by the Department of Education in Des Moines.

The Iowa Preschool Program for 4 year olds will provide an opportunity for all young children in the State of Iowa to enter Kindergarten ready to learn by expanding access to quality preschool curricula.

The funds provided through this grant will help fund all preschool children in the district making it free of charge to every child.

“It is our hope that all families within the area will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to help their children get a jump start on learning,” commented Moravia superintendent Brad Breon.

Moravia's preschool program will run all day everyday Monday through Thursday. Fridays will be reserved as parent contact days and teacher in-service days. One teacher and an additional teacher's associate will be added to make two classes of preschool.

“The Moravia School District is excited to offer this program free of tuition to all of our students. We hope this commitment by the board and community will continue to raise student academic outcomes,” Breon said.
