The annual Appanoose County Train Rides will be July 12 and 13 in Moravia. The scenic 70-minute train ride in an open air passenger car pulled by a diesel-electric engine begins at the Wabash Depot Museum and travels north to Albia and returns.
There are nine departure times during the weekend. Saturday departure times are 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 pm, 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday departure times are 11 am, 1 pm, 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children 6 through 12, and $2 for children 5 and under. Reservations are strongly recommended.
“We continue to sell out each year,” said Joyce Bieber, executive director or the Centerville-Rathbun Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the rides. “There is a tremendous amount of interest in trains statewide and people drive for hundreds of miles for the opportunity to ride.”
For more information or to purchase tickets contact the Centerville-Rathbun Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, 641-437-4102 or 800-611-3800. Proceeds from the train rides support tourism projects in Appanoose County.
