Reznicek receives Bowl of Hygeia Award
Rollie Reznicek was given a top Iowa Pharmacy Association honor during the groups June 10 annual meeting held in Cedear Rapids.
The Centerviille pharmacist was selected by the Iowa Pharmacy Association as the 2006 Bowl of Hygeia recipient.
The Bowl of Hygeia Award was established in 1958 by the A.H. Robins Pharmaceutical Company to recognize pharmacists who possess outstanding records of civic leadership in their communities and to encourage pharmacists to take active roles in local affairs.
In keeping with tradition the name of the recipient is kept secret, known only by a select few, until the evening of the annual banquet when it is announced.
Once his name was announced as the 2006 recipient Reznicek was called to the podium to accept the award. He was given a standing ovation as family and friends came from behind closed doors to join him at the front of the banquet hall.
“I was very surprised and very happy to see all the family and friends that came up to witness the award presentation.” Reznicek said “It is quite an honor to be selected.”
Earlier in the evening, Reznicek was also recognized for his 50 years of service as an Iowa Pharmacist and he was given a gold pin plus a plaque from the Iowa Pharmacy Association.
Reznicek owned and operated the Owl Pharmacy in Centerville from 1964 until 1992. His son Frank now manages the Owl Pharmacy and the business has been in the Reznicek family for over 40 years.
Rollie Reznicek is a graduate of Creighton University College of Pharmacy and currently resides in Centerville. He has been active in local politics and has served as mayor of Centerville. He is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. He is a member of St. Mary‚s Parish and has been very active in area school activities such as the Band Parents Organization. He was instrumental in the rejuvenation of the city-owned cemetery and was also a leader in the development of an area wide youth center that is located on the south side of Centerville.
The Bowl of Hygeia Award is presented annually to only one pharmacist by pharmacy associations in each of the United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The award is a handsome mahogany plaque featuring the Bowl of Hygeia cast in bronze. In 1964, The American Pharmacist Association adopted the Bowl of Hygeia as its symbol to represent the pharmacy profession.
Stephens named Distinguished Young Pharmacist
The Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) announced Lindsey Stephens, R.Ph. from Des Moines, is the 2006 recipient of the Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award. She is originally from Centerville.
