Officials still investigating Opperman death

By Jason McGrann - Sports editor

CENTERVILLE – The Daily Iowegian recently received a copy of the death certificate for Davis Tyler Opperman, age 23, who died of a gunshot wound to the head in Cincinnati on January 27.

Although the death certificate states Opperman’s cause of death was a “self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head”, Appanoose County Sheriff Gary Anderson responded to a Daily Iowegian inquiry by stating, “the State Medical Examiner’s Office has indicated that the manner of death is undetermined at this time and pending the investigation.”

Anderson also said that the State Medical Examiner’s Office relied on the initial report from Opperman’s spouse, which was listed on the death certificate.

Opperman’s wife, Casey Opperman, called 911 at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 27 to report that her husband had killed himself at 112 N. Liberty St. in Cincinnati.

“When the investigation is completed, the manner of death will be changed to the appropriate determination,” said Anderson in a letter to the Daily Iowegian.
