YMCA offers ‘positive learning environment’

Daily Iowegian

CENTERVILLE — Dear Editor,

On Saturday, Nov. 3 my son participated in a basketball camp sponsored by our local YMCA. Matt Kovacevich coordinated the camp and not only was it well-ran and organized, he took the time to spend time with each child present, and there were approximately 30-40 children there. I sat in amazement at the way the children interacted with him, and him with them, and I could see the impact he had on the children for the short time the camp lasted. The difference he made in the lives of those kids during that camp was extremely evident to myself as well as other parents that were in attendance watching. He was able to motivate the young players while staying extremely positive and he made each child feel welcomed and encouraged them to strive for success. We should truly appreciate that quality in the leaders of our youth.

The YMCA is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility. That's because a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. As a community, we are very lucky to have the YMCA programs for our children available, and unfortunately, not everyone takes advantage of the benefits of theses programs.

I fully encourage parents in our community to utilize the YMCA in order to provide a positive learning environment for their children.
