Help Drake Public Library continue mission

Daily Iowegian

CENTERVILLE — Dear Editor,

The Friends of the Drake Public Library are seeking annual corporate and personal sponsors to assist in our mission of supporting the Drake Public Library and promoting literacy.   We are a non-profit organization with a 501 (c) (3) designation allowing donations to be tax deductible within the law.

During the 12 month period between September 2011 and August 2012 the Friends expenditures were nearly $13,000. The bulk of the expenditures were used for the purchase of books, WILBOR online book subscription for e-readers, magazine subscriptions, landscaping and the Children’s Summer Reading Program and other items and services not covered by the libraries general budget. Our income for the same period was approximately $8,000. The income from membership dues and donations totaled about $5,200 and the remainder came from fundraisers. Over the last seven years we have been fortunate to receive some sizable donations and memorial monies allowing us to be generous in our support of the Drake Public Library but the time has come to review our spending and come up with a plan to continue our mission.

All PLATINUM-$500 and over, GOLD-$200-$499, SILVER-$100-$199 and BRONZE-$25-$99 sponsors will be recognized in the media when possible and in newsletters, bulletins and emails with the sponsors permission. Please consider becoming a sponsor of The Friends of the Drake Public Library. Sponsors will be separate from membership dues which are still $5 for individuals and $10 for families and will remain a crucial part of our income.

Let’s get started.

Colene Chebuhar

President of the FDPL
