‘Safe Routes to School —Balderdash!’
Safe Routes to School — Balderdash! There is no such thing. There is no such thing as unsafe routes to school either.
This was all a ploy for one reason — money, and had absolutely nothing to do with the children. Those pushing for its existence and those council members both past and present and the administrator should all be ashamed of themselves.
The Safe Routes Project was first introduced when Ms. Kennis was council person and at first she objected until it was revealed that grant money could be obtained and then all got on board. Those introducing this plan were undeterred, and after many resurrections of same plan, it was finally implemented, to their delight for they were handsomely remunerated, and city received it’s grant. However: it came at a great cost to others financially, emotionally, and loss.
Questions are prevalent now and will always be — i.e. Does it mean that all schools, not having the 6 foot wide sidewalks are unsafe? If so then how dare they. How can you discriminate one location from the other? Was marketing done? How many children walked that route? Probably none! Were there ever any fatal or maming accidents along this route when children walked? Is it not correct that children are either bussed, or driven by parents, siblings, friends, or themselves? How are children to be transported to the walk site — helicopter perhaps?
Take a drive down south Main, but make sure you bring your “emesis basin” (vomiting basin) for you will need it. The destruction of residents property is unconscionable. Their property has now been devaluated. This is the cost to others, and for no logical reason what-so-ever. This 6 foot sidewalk will never be used except for skateboarding, racing and occasionally some cars (as a prank). This 6 foot sidewalk is an overreach indeed, and who will be responsible for upkeep and maintenance i.e. shoveling snow, repairs? City-Doubtful? Owners — Yes!
Rest assured, if this writing is considered negative, it is meant to be.
The greed, incompetence, ignorance, idiocy, and pure dumbness showed by those involved in this project (Safe Routes to School) should resonant in this community as what not to do. Shame on you! Shame on all of you!
