Proper Pancake Day etiquette

The Daily Iowegian

---- — Dear Editor,

It’s amazing that this was Pancake Day’s 65th year. It was nice to see all the support for Pancake Day in spite of inclement weather.

The Centerville High School and Howar Junior High School bands did a beautiful job.

My friends and I were seated on the east side of the Square and I was appalled at the rudeness of the crowds crossing in front of the parade still in progress. It you need to leave, be considerate of other people. Cross where the parade has ended and use the sidewalks to get around. I don’t know what more can be done to stop this, but it would be nice to be able to see the parade.

Another issue I have is the reservation of chairs. I don’t believe there should be reserved seats. When I was a young girl, everyone carried their lawn chairs to the parade before it started and it was first come, first serve. It was spontaneous and it worked.

Please keep our tradition an asset to the community by being polite and courteous to others and be supportive of our bands and other participants.
