The Daily Iowegian
---- — Dear Editor,
Organizing for Main Street has been asked, “Why do we need another group?”
Main Street is not only committed to the revitalization of downtown districts, but is also focused on the long-term sustainment of the heart of a community’s commercial district. In Centerville’s case, this district includes the Square and one block surrounding it.
For almost three decades, Iowa’s Main Street communities have successful cultivated and implemented practical management strategies using the Main Street Four Point Approach: Organization, Design, Promotion and Business Development. This particular group will become part of a subset of many individual communities adhering to standards established by the National Main Street Center.
We will be accountable to the state-wide program, Main Street Iowa, who has the responsibility of selecting community applications for participation in the larger program. The extensive resources available through this program have been pooled through more than 30 years of program development and success stories, not only across Iowa, but the entire United States.
