The Centerville Student Council sponsored many positive events during the last several weeks.
The beginning of the school year was successful due to the student orientation and Lunch on the Lawn. Homecoming was a success, once again.
Over the past three years I have had many administrators from other school districts compliment our student council and it’s strength as a program. I applaud the energy to sustain the success of the program.
The vocal music department represented Centerville Schools with talent and skill. In October, the CHS vocal students traveled to Oskaloosa to participate in the South Central Conference Vocal Festival.
The choir performed a musical piece called “I Was Here.” On Oct. 21, a junior senior high vocal concert was held in Simon Estes Auditorium.
Once again, the talents of many of our Big Red students impressed those who were in attendance.
The Centerville High School Band had a fabulous showing of their marching band skills and talents this fall.
The hard work of the CHS marching band paid off.
They earned the first division I rating in CHS history. The concert band and jazz bands are also catching the attention of many.
Five students auditioned for the Iowa All-State band. One of the five students was selected for All-State Band! Congratulations to all who auditioned, and good luck at All-State Katie Sharp.
The drama department, once again, knocked my socks off with their impressive talents and courage.
I mention courage because I never had the courage as a high school student to memorize lines, perform acting and display myself in front of a full auditorium of people.
I admire the confidence of these students. This year the drama department sponsored the showing of “Sound of Music.”
The performance was flawless.
Many of our Big Red successes this fall had occurred in the classrooms, as well. This final recognition in this letter is to recognize the inspirational teaching that occurs on a daily basis.
