To the editor:
As we approach President’s Day on Feb. 18, we are reminded that President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday was Feb. 12 and President George Washington’s birthday was Feb 22. In America, we have seen Christian principles undergirding and permeating our nation, including the governmental structure and philosophy to the extent that had never been realized before in the world.
Certainly those two presidents were men of integrity and faith as they lived and governed in keeping with the Christian heritage of this nation. A couple quotations exemplify their active faith. President Washington wrote, “It is impossible to rightly govern without God and the Bible.” President Lincoln said, “those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”
We are now living in a time when we see many changes from the principles on which our nation was built and which have been the bedrock foundation for many years. I am not an alarmist, but it seems our country is on the verge of collapse as history tells us what happened to nations which forgot God and their moral base. When we see the moral foundations which have held America together since it’s beginning, being mocked and even some churches in America far beneath the standards of the Bible with some church organizations even ordaining homosexuals into the pulpits. It would seem the gates of America are burning down and moral collapse is inevitable. When the “new morality” which throws out the Ten Commandments, tosses the Bible out of our schools and forces youth to learn witchcraft through reading Harry Potter novels, the foundations of our nation are crumbling.
What can be done to restore America? It’s time to remember our spiritual heritage and pray for America. Put God’s top priorities first to restore families, churches and our nation. It’s time for a spiritual awakening in America, time for a new birth of freedom. It’s time to get involved and take a stand for principles, which made America great, including as the Declaration of Independence says, “all men are created equal, and they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.
Although it’s about 8 months until the general election, it’s not to early to evaluate the candidates and be prepared to vote only for those who represent America’s hope for the future. Also, we should be prepared to withstand the evil forces which will continue to try to derail America and rob us of prosperity, which many people take for granted.
If America is to survive and continue as we have known it, we must unite to make it happen.
