---- — It’s time to get your flu vaccine. While there is little flu activity right now, flu season usually begins in October and flu activity is expected to increase in the coming weeks to months. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends that everyone age 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year. The vaccine protects against the three flu viruses research indicates will cause the most illness during the upcoming season.

Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness and at times can lead to death. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year.

The flu vaccine is available Sept. 23 at 209 E. Jackson St. (if a nurse is available) or call Appanoose County Public Health at (641) 437-4332 for an appointment.
