---- — The Iowa 4-H Youth Development Program provides opportunities for youth to develop skills they can use now and throughout their life. Iowa 4-H builds upon a century of experience as it fosters positive youth development that is based on the needs and strengths of youth, their families and communities.
Appanoose County is fortunate to have a thriving 4-H Program with 250 young people. This year, numerous 4-H members participated at the Iowa State Fair, whether through exhibiting livestock, participating in the clothing and communications event or by being selected to have an exhibit shown!
The following Appanoose County 4-H members represented Appanoose County during this year’s fair through exhibits: Jessica Allen (Red), Hannah Bailey (Blue), Katie Bratz (Blue), Joshua Brown (Red), Justin Brown (Red), Emily Caylor (Blue), Neal Caylor (Red), Sydney DeVore (Red), Ashtin Glenn (Blue), Pacey Hawkins (Blue), Paige Heesch (Blue), Keith Hoffman (Red), Jayci Inman (Red), Jenna Inman (Blue and Red), Emily Johnson (Blue and Red), Lizzy Kumer (Red), Skyler Lawson (Blue), Melanie McGill (Blue and White), Samantha Micetich (Red), Joe Morris (Blue), Myriah Porter (Blue), Brandi Rexroat (Red), Shelby Royer (Blue and Red), Abby Ryan (Blue), Abby Sells (Blue), Emily Steinbach (Red and White), Rose Lana Vanderlinden (Blue), Kelsey Wagner (Red), Brenton Willier (Blue), Bailey Witt (Red) and Robert Wood (Blue). In addition to these individuals, the following 4-H Clubs had exhibits: Caldwell Kids 4-H Club (White), Exline Ramblers (Blue) and Wells Rustlers (Red).
In addition to her blue ribbon, Pacey Hawkins was awarded an achievement medal from the Professional Photographers of Iowa for her photo exhibit.
The following Appanoose County 4-H members represented Appanoose County during the 4-H Livestock Shows: Franchesca DeVore (Blue) and Jarrod Kromray (Blue) for Breeding Beef. Jarrod Kromray (Purple) and Graydon Schmidt (Purple and Blue) for Market Beef. Matthew Logsdon (Purple and 3 Blue) for Meat Goats. Kendall Brown (2 Blue) and Camy Gheer (2 Purple) for Horse. Tiger Terpstra (2 Purple and 2 Blue) for Market Sheep. Tiger Terpstra (Blue) for Performance Sheep.
In addition to her purple ribbons, Camy Gheer won Champion Pole Bending and Champion Barrel Racing.
The following Appanoose County 4-H members participated in the Communications Event: Brianna Carroll, Franchesca DeVore and Madi Jo Smith.
The following Appanoose County 4-H members participated in the Clothing Event: Courtney Ballanger, Alienna Boecker, Shelby Royer and Jessica Wood.
This year, Appanoose County was represented for the first time at the Cook This Culinary Challenge held at the Iowa State Fair. The following Appanoose County 4-H members participated in the Cook This Challenge: Alienna Boecker, John Davis, Kendall Davis, Jasmine McFall and Sarah Rocha.
The Appanoose County 4-H Program is extremely proud of the success of its members and invites any young person who is in fourth – 12th grade to consider joining 4-H.
