Putnam County Fairground in Unionville, Mo. was named one of 10 finalists competing for a Fairground Facelift grant sponsored by Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company.
Grinnell Mutual invites the public to vote for its favorite project on its Front Porch Facebook page at www.facebook.com/GrinnellMutualFrontPorch. Grinnell Mutual will distribute a total of $3,500 between three of these fairgrounds.
If voted as a winner, Putnam County Fairground will receive a Fairground Facelift grant to cover the currently open-sided sheep and cattle barns with louvered metal on their west sides, protecting both livestock and junior exhibitors from sun, rain and wind. This solution was installed on the poultry/rabbit barn in 2013 and was successful in keeping out the elements while providing necessary ventilation.
Additional finalists include: Carroll County Fairgrounds, Coon Rapids; Cherokee County Fair Association, Cherokee; Hardin County Fairgrounds, Eldora; Mohall Fairgrounds, Mohall, N.D.; Norman County Fair, Ada, Minn.; Red River Valley Fair, West Fargo, N.D.; Renville County Fair, Bird Island, Minn.; Scottsbluff County Fairgrounds, Mitchell, Neb.; and White County 4-H Fairgrounds, Reynolds, Ind.
