---- — The Exline Ramblers met on Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at the Exline City Hall to do their annual “Adopt A Highway” project. Thirty members picked up trash along County Line T-30 for about a three mile stretch.
Our meeting was called to order by President Skyler Lawson. Other officers present were: Kirsten Brauman, Trey McCoy and Mariah Clawson.
Topics and reminders discussed at the meeting were as follows:
nBrainstorming ideas for the exhibit building booth at the county fair (tabled for our May meeting). We voted in favor of making a donation from our club to the Exline 4th of July celebration. We will also make a donation to any of our club members that are planning to attend 4-H camp this summer.
n Our fall fundraiser has been rolled out early (taking mum orders until early May).
n Bench project update (benches can still be purchased and ordered in honor or memory to be placed at the Appanoose County Fair – contact Shawn Tait at (641) 895-1094.
n We would like to thank the families in memory of Dr. Stephen Jewett and Nancy Sayer and in honor of the Stan and Mirie Huston for purchasing benches thus far.
n Reminder livestock identification forms must be turned in by 5 p.m. on May 15.
n All exhibitors of livestock at the Iowa state Fair and swine exhibitors only at the county fair must have livestock quality assurance certification. Contact the extension office for training dates. Also, if you are enrolled in the beef carcass contest, contact the extension office to choose weigh in dates in July. Dates are chosen on a first come, first choice basis.
n Information/applications for 4-H/FFA youth project loans from FSA can be inquired at the Monroe County FSA office at (641) 932-7134.
n 4-H leaders training for Appanoose County will be held on May 6 at 7 p.m.
n Pre-entry dates are set for June 27, June 28 and July 1.
n Reminder to pick up your record books.
n Lamb and meat goat weigh-ins will be on May 4 from 8–10 a.m. at the Appanoose County Fairgrounds.
n Swine exhibitors need their hogs tags in by May 15. Derby pig weigh-ins will be on Saturday, May 4.
n Appanoose County Fair Queen contestants (ages 16 to 21 years old) application deadline is June 1. Applications may be picked up at the Extension Office or Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Centerville.
n Clothing Event/Fashion Review will be on Tuesday, July 9. Communication event will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at 9 a.m. First United Methodist Church. Youth Council meeting on April 15 at 7 p.m. Appanoose County adult committee will be on Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m.
n Dog project meetings begin Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
n Horse project meetings will begin in June.
n Cow/Calf project – calves must be born between Jan. 1 and May 1 and weighed in within three days of birth by one of beef official weighers. Contact the extension office with questions at 856-3885.
n Future dates – Appanoose County Fair – July 15-20 and Iowa State Fair – Aug. 8-18.
