Appanoose County Farm Bureau honored for excellence in 2012

CENTERVILLE — Representing Appanoose County at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting in Des Moines Dec. 4 were President Dan Furlin Jr., Martha Furlin, voting delegate Tom Zaputil, Mary Sue Zaputil, Dana and Terri Haub, state Young Farmer Committee members Jon and Ashley Hart and office assistant Barb Peterson.

Furlin Jr. and Tom Zaputil attended official business sessions. Peterson attended the state office assistants meeting on Tuesday.

They attended the general session, educational workshops, the county recognition program, and the young farmer recognition program. They heard from President Craig Hill, Gov. Terry Branstad and speakers such as Temple Grandin, Jolene Brown and Lowell Cattlett. Centerville native Simon Estes entertained mid-day Tuesday with a number of songs.

All except Haubs attended the Tuesday evening activity at the Hall of Pride, viewing the wonderful displays and visiting with county leaders from across the state, staff, and others including Estes, wrestling coach Dan Gable and former Hawkeye and NFL football player Tim Dwight.

Furlin Jr. received the Appanoose County Farm Bureau recognition award at the meeting.   Appanoose County Farm Bureau received an outstanding designation for its 2012 programs which help further the story of agriculture to new audiences through many areas including policy development, policy implementation, communications, and strengthen the county Farm Bureau.
