2014 Crop Fair at Honey Creek

---- — JOHNSTON — This winter’s crop fair has a program designed to help local growers deal with the volatility in modern agriculture, according to organizers with the Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board. The program will be held Jan. 16 at Honey Creek Resort, 12633 Resort Drive, Moravia. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the program running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a complimentary lunch served at 12 p.m.

Featured presentations include: “Herbicide resistance in Iowa: take action” by Mike Owen, University professor and extension weed specialist; “What’s new in the updated Iowa P, K, and lime recommendations?” by Antonio Mallarino, professor & extension soil fertility and nutrient management specialist; “Research update: corn and soybean yield response to micronutrients” by Antonio Mallarino, professor and extension soil fertility and nutrient management specialist; “Make every seed count: seedling disease and seed treatments” by Alison Robertson, extension crop plant pathologist; “Managing cover crops as a cover crop and as a forage crop” by Mark Carlton, extension field agronomist; “Crop weather outlook” by Elwynn Taylor, extension climatologist; and concurrent sessions following lunch.
