Scholarship winners in IFAA
Ethan Brinegar of Moulton, son of Sharon Hopkins-Brinegar, developed a flock of 60 head of Jacob Sheep. He received a first place gold rating in the State FAA Specialty Animal Production Entrepreneurial/Placement Proficiency Award in 2007.
Brinegar was named a winner of a $1,000 Parkin Family Scholarship.
He has won numerous championship and showmanship awards at the Appanoose County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. He has actively shown cattle, swine, horses and rabbits and worked with several Ag and Youth Days as well as nursing homes to present animals.
He will major in mechanical engineering at Indian Hills Community College. His major interest is in designing more efficient engines that use alternative fuels to help the ag industry compete in the future.
Tyler Lain of Corydon was named a winner of a $1,000 Russ Brannen/Kent Feeds Memorial Beef Scholarship. His parents are Terry and Jean Lain.
Lain has exhibited cattle at the Wayne County Fair, Iowa State Fair and American Royal. He has received showmanship honors in beef, swine and sheep divisions.
He has been president of his FFA chapter, 4-H club and on the 4-H Youth Council. He will major in sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship at Indian Hills Community College.
He plans to return to the farm and expand his cow/calf herd.
Kord Culver of Centerville has received the $300 4-H Sheep Premier Exhibitor Second Place Award from the Iowa Lamb Corporation, in Hawarden, and Stockman’s Inn, the Lyle Kreps family in Johnston.
