Hutchison, Surls engaged, plan spring wedding

Christy Hutchison and Daniel Surls announce their engagement to be married.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Verl and Jenny Hutchison of rural Centerville. She graduated from Heritage Christian High School in 1992, received her AA from IHCC in 1994 and received her BA from Iowa State University. She is currently employed as a technical writer for MetLife Annuity Operations in West Des Moines.

The groom-elect is the son of Kaye Surls of Iowa City and Russell Surls of Iowa City. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1992, and received his BA in 1997 from the University of Iowa. He is currently employed as a business analyst for MetLife Annuity Operations in West Des Moines.

The couple has planned an April 2007 wedding and will make their home in West Des Moines.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
