IHCC art faculty to present annual show

The Daily Iowegian

---- — OTTUMWA — The 2013 Indian Hills Community College art faculty exhibition will feature recent works by Mark McWhorter, Lisa Fritz and Barry Johnson. The exhibit opened with a public reception on Monday, Nov. 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the IHCC Gallery on the Ottumwa Campus.

Among his collection of paintings, McWhorter will show a new series of abstract works based on aerial views of towns and cities. Other works of his will feature subjects taken from recent travel and backpacking trips in both Colorado and Wyoming. McWhorter will also show a collection of stoneware pottery, all oven and dishwasher safe, in a wide variety of decorative and useful forms.

Fritz has been experimenting with traditional "Face Jugs." Whether originating as a spirit vessel or with the intent to ward off evil, they take on a life of their own. Some are humorous, some are scary. Fritz will also feature her most recent block prints that are based on nature and transform into patterns.

Johnson teaches photography courses on the Ottumwa Campus and, for the first time, will be adding his photographs to the annual show.

The exhibition will be on view until Thursday, Dec. 12.
