The Centerville Community School District Board of Education Nov. 11 voted to spend $40,050 to purchase 120 new uniforms for the Centerville High School marching band.
Brad Brauman, Centerville Band Booster treasurer, told the board the current CHS marching band uniforms were purchased in 1993 and recommended the school district make the purchase. Centerville Band Boosters are actively fundraising and will donate that money to the school district for the band uniform purchase.
Shortly after the 6:30 p.m. meeting was opened, the board moved into closed session at 6:40 p.m. They would return back into open session at 7:45 p.m.
The closed session allowed the board to discuss strategy with legal council on matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation may be imminent where disclosure might prejudice or disadvantage the governmental body in litigation.
An effort to improve the building doors and locks at Lakeview Elementary was suggested because of the ongoing Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate training, Mike Zintz said. So far only one bid has been received and one more is needed, Zintz said, before he can present the item to the board for consideration.
The board voted to award the snow removal contract to J.R. Cicco for $595 per time. The contract calls for J.R. Cicco to remove the snow from Lakeview’s front and back parking lots, Howar Junior High School’s back parking lot and Centerville High School’s parking lots.
J.R. Cicco was the only bid received for snow removal.
The board voted to submit a request to School Budget Review Committee for 15 open enrollment students counted in the fall 2013 certified enrollment but not on the fall 2012 certified enrollment in the amount of $90,015. The vote included two Limited English Proficiency students in the amount of $2,719.
Tony Ryan, superintendent of schools, said SBRC is the review panel for the school budgetary process.
“The district requests ‘allowable growth’ that will increase our spending authority,” Ryan said. “The LEP report/request does the same thing. However, the LEP report only includes student who were reported for a period of five years.”
The board moved into closed session for the second time at 9:30 p.m. They would move back into open session at 10:25 p.m.
The closed session allowed the board to discuss professional performance which may be required by state or federal law to be kept confidential to prevent injury to an individual’s reputation.
The board meeting adjourned at 10:26 p.m.
