PELLA — Tyler Morgan of Centerville is a member of the 2009-10 Central College Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

SWE is under the direction of Mitchell Lutch, director of bands and assistant professor of music, and is a select instrumental ensemble featuring 30 performers.

SWE, along with Central’s A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers, will perform together for Central’s Sunday Concert Series Oct. 11. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in Douwstra Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

The groups will perform selections from Three Flower Songs by Eric Whitacre; “Soon in the Morning,” by David Maddux; “Stars I Shall Find,” by David Dickao; “Daemon,” by Gyorgy Orban; and “Hosanna to the Son of David,” by Orlando Gibbons. Other pieces include “El Camino Real,” by Alfred Reed; “Konigsmarsch,” by Richard Strauss; “Funniculi Funnicula,” by Lulgi Denza; and “Dusk,” by Steven Bryant.

Thom Mahler, a 2008 Central College alumnus, will conduct the piece “Dusk” by Steven Bryant. Mahler is employed by Aplington-Parkersburg Schools where he teaches instrumental and vocal music. The tragedies experienced by the district have been widely publicized, and staff and students have been slowly recovering. As part of an outreach project, SWE plans to sponsor an opportunity for the audience to contribute to the school district’s music department as they continue to recover from the devastating tornado and restore the music library and instruments that were destroyed.

Morgan is a freshman, exploring, graduate of Centerville High School that plays the bass clarinet.

Central’s A Cappella Choir is under the direction of Mark Babcock, director of choral activities and associate professor of music. Davis Folkerts, professor emeritus of music, will accompany the choir.
