Published May 19, 2008 09:46 am - Emily Felkner of Centerville was recognized by Governor Chet Culver for outstanding academic achievement at the 6th annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony held April 27 at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines. Felkner is a student at Centerville High School. Felkner is a student at Centerville High School.
The statewide program, sponsored by the Iowa Governor’s Office, Iowa High School Athletic Association and its title sponsor, the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, honored more than 450 high school seniors from throughout Iowa. Each high school was invited to select the senior student possessing the highest academic ranking based on grade point average for their first seven semesters. Every student selected for the award also recognized his/her favorite teacher and received a photo plaque of his/her meeting with Gov. Culver.
