The closing of St. Mary’s School has left many families wondering what they will do for child care this summer. The Summer Program, After School and Winter Program will continue to be offered in the St. Mary’s building, but will be registered through DHS by Michelle Brooke.
This year, the program’s theme is “Learn, Earn and Show Concern.” The students will be going green, learning how to protect the environment, themselves and each other.
There will be participation in the Drake Public Library reading program, the Children’s Art Festival and Children’s Theater. Archery will be taught by Sharon Bluffs State Park Naturalist Marty Muir. Tae Kwon Do and a sewing class will be offered to those interested.
All children will benefit from the summer program as they work daily to keep academic skills up to grade level and beyond. They will practice geography skills, conduct environmental science experiments and continue reading and practicing math skills throughout the summer.
The program is open to all children 4 years of age through the sixth grade. It will be held Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Parents may use the program for whatever hours needed, but there will be minimum hours required. The cost is $2.25 per hour.
If you are interested in enrolling your child in Mrs. Brooke’s Summer Program, call 437-1117 and ask for enrollment papers to be mailed to you or stop by the school and pick them up. Ask to speak to Michelle Brooke if there are questions about the program.
