Donald Earl Dowd 83, of Moravia died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

He was born July 7, 1923 in Moravia, the son of Clarence and Mina (Callen) Dowd in Moravia. He was a graduate of Moravia High School class of 1941.

He married Casey Ann Kraber, April 21, 1961 in Moravia. To this union four daughters were born.

Following graduation, Donald briefly served in the FBI and worked as a substitute schoolteacher. He worked on his family farm for 40 years, prior to moving to Moravia for retirement. Some of Donald’s greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, and attending church. He was also on the Bowling League, was a little league coach, on the Farm Service board, and the Grace United Methodist Church board. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and camping. Donald was a very special person to many people.

He is preceded in death by brothers Dean and Delmar; Mom, Mina; and father, Clarence. He is survived by daughters: Rhonda Spencer, Audrey Kaster, Sheila and Ken Reistroffer, Donna Seddon; grandchildren: Jessi and Brad Nicoletto, Jamie and Eric Knapp, Josh Spencer, Tracy Dowd and Adam Bettis, Brad Close, Richelle Seddon, Scott Close, Brad Reistroffer, Ashley Reistroffer and Gage Reistroffer; and Great-grandchildren: Tyler Knapp, Karli Knapp, Brooklyn Bettis, and Cameron Nicoletto.

Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Moravia Funeral Home Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
