Robert "RL" Lloyd, Jr

CENTERVILLE — Robert "RL" Lloyd, Jr., 48, of Centerville, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at his home in Centerville.  

He was born the son of Robert and LaDean (McCammant) Lloyd, Sr on Dec. 25, 1961 in Davenport. He graduated from the Putnam County Community Schools in Unionville, Mo.

Robert was employed for over 10 years at Shivers in Corydon, then worked at Plant 3 for Vermeer in Pella before starting work at Barker Company in Centerville. He loved being an uncle to his niece and nephews and fishing his favorite fishing hole.

He is preceded in death by: his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Robert is survived by:  his parents, LaDean Lloyd of Marshall, Mo. and Robert Lloyd, Sr. of Green Castle, Mo.; brothers, Richard Lloyd of Edinboro, Penn. and Roger Lloyd and his wife, Stacey of Albia; as well as a special friend, Velma Sales, of Centerville.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the Rev. Gene Behrens officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lipp Cemetery near Green Castle, Mo.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 from  9 a.m. till time of services at the funeral home with the family present.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
