CENTERVILLE — November is here and the warm summer weather has left. The seniors at the club look forward to the holiday season starting. A little update on the building repairs will be shared. Our roof has been finished and looks very good. Our next repairs will come in the spring with the need for siding and windows. We were very pleased to have raised $8,000 at our evening dinner and bingo along with the inside yard sale for the roof. This was all raised by the hard work of the seniors. We have had a local business, Golden Age Skilled Nursing and Rehab, challenge other local businesses to donate to the club’s improvement fund.

It was our pleasure to host the monthly Kaffee Klatch yesterday. Nice to see a group of local business people support the city.

We will start off the month with today being the sign-up for Lakeside Casino. While you sign-up, you can eat lunch with us. The menu for the day is; beef stew, whole grain biscuit, tossed lettuce salad, sliced strawberries and crispy rice bar.

Monday, Nov. 7 we will have bingo prior to lunch at 10:45 a.m. Lunch will follow at 11:30 a.m. with homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, broccoli with cheese, fruit mixture and chocolate chip bar.

Wednesday, Nov. 9 we will have blood pressure checks from 10-11 a.m. by the Appanoose County Public Health nurses. Our chicken dinner will follow at 11:30 a.m. Later in the day Sen. Lobesack’s office will be in talking in our building with the public about Medicare Open Enrolment. This program will start at 4 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 10 we will have our monthly birthday party with bingo at 5 p.m. Bring your favorite covered dish and table service and we will have our own little Thanksgiving meal together. Bingo will follow.

Friday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day and the site will be closed. If you need an extra meals for today please let us know Thursday and you can get a carry-out.

Tuesday, Nov. 15 we will have our Wii Bowling tournament. Yes, this month and for the winter months we will be having the tournaments twice a month. The winner for last month with also the highest score of 211 was Carolyn Baugh. Way to go Carolyn. You must have been practicing.

Wednesday, Nov. 16 we will have our noon birthday party with movie. This month’s movie Cecilia Budeslich brought and is “Love Comes Softly.” This movie is based on Janette Oke’s best-seller and directed by Michael Landon Jr. The movie will start at 9:30 a.m. and the chicken dinner will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, Nov. 17 we will be off to Lakeside Casino. We depart at 9 a.m. on the Hawkeye Motor Coach and return home at 5 p.m. This will be the last casino trip until spring. Again the cost is $18 per person and each receives a buffet lunch and $10 loaded on the card to play with.

Monday, Nov. 21 we will have our program on New Orleans. Thanks to Marilee Zahnd for supplying her camera disk and finishing up with mine we will have a very nice show. The pictures are loaded on a disk and played by the DVD player on the TV, so it is very easy for all to see. While watching the show we will enjoy fresh beignets, a mix Ramona Hafar helped get.

Wednesday, Nov. 23 we will have our Thanksgiving feast. This is the one time a year that we as a “senior family” can gather and enjoy the meal together. We will also be having the Chef Charles program starting at 10:30 a.m. The meal will start at 11:30 a.m. I invite all to call and attend this special time to share with friends.

Thursday, Nov. 24 as well as Friday, Nov. 25 the site will be closed so that all can enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Tuesday, Nov. 29 we will have our second Wii bowling tournament for the month. Brackets start at 10 a.m. and will run until 11:30 a.m. with a break for lunch and the finals starting right after our meal.

A quick look into next month reminds us to save Dec. 15 for our Christmas dinner and bingo. All the food will be prepared on site, so just call and sign up for the night so we know how much food to prepare. More information will be in next month’s article.
