CENTERVILLE — September is here and we are happy to hear cooler weather is in store. It will really seem different this year not being on the square and having food for Pancake Day. We will now enjoy it in a different way.

We will start off the month today with home-made pizza. If you have not tried Kathy’s creation you must. It is wonderful.

We are looking forward to the three-day weekend. With Labor Day on Monday we will enjoy family one more day. If you are in need of an extra meal on Friday to cover for Monday, let us know today.

Tuesday, Sept. 6 will be the first day you can come in and sign up for the Lakeside Casino trip on Sept. 29. Again the trip costs $18 per person and included in this cost is a free buffet meal, $10 loaded on your card and transportation on the motor coach. Chef Salad will be the menu today, so maybe you can come in and eat and signup all at the same time.

Wednesday, Sept. 7 we will have our Care Givers Program and Courtney O’Connor and Kristy Demry from Golden Age will be in discussing the “Fall Problems in Our House.” This will include what areas in the house are potential hazards. Our chicken dinner will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, Sept. 8 will be our birthday party with co-op at 5 p.m. Bring a covered dish and table service. Drinks will be provided and bingo will start immediately following supper.

Tuesday, Sept. 13 will be the Annual Fall Event with the Iowa Insurance Division and the Iowa Department on Aging along with the local Seneca Area on Aging held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Honey Creek Resort State Park. Some of the topics include; “Fighting Financial Fraud,” “Slips, Trips and Falls — It’s a Matter of Balance” and “What’s New with Medicare.” Lunch is complementary and free transportation will be provided for all 10 county areas. You must be registered to attend so stop by today and we will be happy to help you.

Wednesday, Sept. 14 we will have our noon monthly birthday party with movie starting at 9:45 a.m. This month’s movie will be “The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid.” The movie was purchased in connection with the trip we will take this month to Red Wing. Our chicken dinner with apple pie and ice cream will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, Sept. 15 we will have a “Roof Rising Good Ole Time” at a fund raiser for our roof. If you haven’t noticed our roof is in very poor condition. In fact it is leaking in the storage area. We have been notified that the three layers of old shingles must be removed before the new ones are added. We were much honored to receive $10,000. from the Appanoose County Community Fund. This is money that Appanoose County received from casino funds and distributes it among non-profit organizations. The club received it to be used for the roof and siding. Much more than the received money will be needed to do the job. Thursday, Sept. 15 we will be fixing the meal which will consist of various soups, hot rolls, salad and pie with ice cream. Drinks will also be provided and after the meal we will play bingo. We will open this up to the public and donations will be taken at the door. You must call in and make reservations for the event so we will know how many to cook for. We have also had a small birdhouse with a shingled roof made to take donations. If you are unable to attend and would like to send a donation we would love it. Our mailing address is: 18-80 Club, P.O. Box 444, Centerville, IA 52544. Thank you in advance for your generosity. This community has always supported this fine establishment and I feel confident they will continue for years to come.

A group of club ladies has offered to have a yard sale in the building on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to noon. They have requested that items be brought any time after 12 p.m. and before 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. Have your items marked with prices and each person can set-up their own table. All proceeds of the sale will go to help with the roof also.

Wednesday, Sept. 21 we will have our Chef Charles Program starting at 10:30 a.m. This is also the day that 38 seniors will head to Red Wing for a three-day trip. We will leave at 8 a.m. from the parking lot and head to Treasure Island. Here we will receive a $40 gaming package, one free buffet meal, a game of bowling and a $3 food voucher to be used at any food establishment in the casino. We will tour the Northfield area on Thursday, Sept. 22. We start off the morning at the Hanisch Bakery at 9 a.m. and from there head to the Northfield area. We will meet Chip, our tour guide for the day, at the First National Bank Museum and start the “Outlaw Trail Tour.” He then will introduce us to the Jesse James gang and their way. From here we will go to the Carleton College Campus and see the Japanese Gardens. St. Olef College will be our other stop. Here we will have lunch in the King’s Room and the food prepared for the culinary arts students. After lunch we will visit the Fireside Orchard and have the ability to purchase fresh picked apples and goods from the store. The cost for this trip is $160 per person. If you have not signed up and are interested in going you must see me immediately.

Tuesday, Sept. 27 will be our monthly Wii bowling tournament. Those interested in bowling can come in and sign up for the time slot that best suits your schedule. Liver and onions will also be served that day, however if you are not a liver lover we will have another meat choice. Just ask us and we will let you know. The winner of the bowling tournament for August was Willa Dobbs, high scorer Walt Spiker with a 227.

Thursday, Sept. 29 will then be the Lakeside Casino trip. The buses will leave at 9 a.m. from the east end of the parking lot and return home at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 4 will be our trip meeting for New Orleans. We will start it at 3:30 p.m. Those 52 that have signed up will be given the daily itinerary and luggage tags. If you are signed up and cannot come, it is very important that you let me know.
