CENTERVILLE — April is here and the flowers are blooming. We are enjoying the nice weather. Friday, April 6 will be our Easter lunch with games. The day will start with games at 11 a.m., followed by the meal; baked ham, mashed potatoes with gravy, creamed peas, wheat dinner roll, white cake and fruit. All at the senior center wish you and your families a very happy and blessed Easter.

Tuesday, April 10 we will have our Wii bowling tournament. The menu for the day will be; liver and onions, parsley buttered potatoes, mixed vegetables, banana bran muffin and ice cream. For those of you that are not fond of liver we will offer another meat choice, just ask when you are making reservations. Remember reservations for daily meals must be made by 9 a.m. and for special occasions they should be the day before. We have an answering machine on all day and night to call if necessary.

Wednesday, April 11 the Appanoose County Public Health nurses will be in taking blood pressures from 11-11:30 a.m. Our delightful chicken dinner will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Thursday, April 12 we will have our evening birthday party with co-op and bingo. Bring your favorite covered dish and your table service and we will eat and bingo will start immediately after supper at 5 p.m.

Come in on Friday, April 13 for a special lunch with interesting facts and games about Friday the 13th. Menu for the day will be Salisbury steak, sweet potatoes, spinach, coleslaw, cracked wheat dinner rolls and orange apricot gelatin salad with whipped topping.

Saturday, April 14 the members will once again have their yard sale in the building as a fund raiser for the siding and windows. The sale will start at 8 a.m. and run until 12 p.m. Homemade cinnamon rolls will be available for purchase as well as home canned foods and homemade bread and jelly.

Monday, April 16 we will honor our volunteers at a special noon lunch. The menu for the day will be meatloaf, baked potatoes with sour cream, kidney bean salad, wheat bread and mandarin oranges. I know that many of the organizations have volunteers, however, I think I have the best in the world. Our whole team appreciates and relies on these fine people that give from their hearts sometimes daily. Come to the noon meal and help me in giving them the thanks that’s due.

Tuesday, April 17 thru Thursday, April 19 we will be off to Red Wing for a three-day trip. We are in need of a few more people to be able to take this trip. Tuesday, April 17 we will travel to Treasure Island, check in and enjoy the $40 gaming package and a free buffet meal with them. They also give us free games of bowling if interested. Wednesday we will travel to Winona and tour the Cathedral Crafts stain glass capital of the country, Watkins Co. Headquarters and Winona County History Center. We will have a guide from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., then return back to the casino for the night. Thursday we will head home at 9 a.m. You must call in immediately and let us know so we can finish planning for this trip or cancel it.

Monday, April 23 we will have our other Wii bowling tournament for the month. March winners were; Ramona Hafer and Jim Burgin. Way to go you guys.

Tuesday, April 24 will be the day we go to Lakeside for the month. Our motor coach company did not have one available for Thursday this month. This is the only reason we had changed the date. Sign-up for the day has started, so stop by and get signed up for the month. Again the cost for this one-day trip is $20 per person and includes motor coach transportation, lunch buffet and $10 gaming loaded on a card. The motor coach holds only 56 people.

Wednesday, April 25 we will have our caregivers program and the Mercy Hospital Home Care Nurses will be in visiting with the seniors about important health issues.

Friday, April 27 we will have the Wheel of Fortune Game. We will take teams or you can sign up to go single. Three brackets of three people or teams will play and then have the play off for the winner.

A change in date has been made for the fundraiser and dance for May. Due to other meeting obligations our Friday evening dance and supper will now be on Saturday, May 5. We will have supper at 5 p.m. followed by the music group “The Bluegrass Blondies.” All money received at the event will go toward the new siding, windows and lighting. Call and make reservations. Help finish off the needed repairs to our building so we can have a wonderful place to enjoy each other for years to come.

Also mark your calendars for the first day of May. We will have our mayor Jim Senior in for lunch giving the proclamation of “May National Older American Month.” Lots of daily activities will be held during the month. Humana will be providing all the flower pots and flowers for all to take home a potted plant to enjoy for the summer. This will be a wonderful way to spend May Day and even better to remember the 18-80 Club every time you look at it. A big thank you goes out to Kevin and Terri Nelson for helping with the big day.

If you are interested in the Colorado trip in June, call as soon as possible. We are short six people to take this trip. If you do not know what’s included in the package just stop by for a brochure or call.
