The city of Moravia has announced its new city maintenance employee, Russ Bayer of Eddyville has been hired for the position. Bayer is an Eddyville native but spent 14 years in Colorado. He then moved back to Eddyville with his wife and kids. He has been working in construction and is looking forward to using his experience and knowledge in Moravia.

The Moravia Class of 2011 is looking for the next “Moravia Star.” On Saturday, May 3, at 6:30 p.m. the Lip Sync Contest will be held in the Moravia gym. The winner will receive $100 and the audience will be doing the voting for the winner. Come enjoy “Elvis,” “The Spice Girls” and many more as they compete to be the Moravia Star.

If you have been on the Moravia Square lately then perhaps you have noticed the new banners. The Moravia Legacy banners featuring the Moravia Star have been put up and these were made possible by the Moravia Legacy. Those installing the banners were Kathy Kearney, Iowa Trust-Moravia branch manager, Dona Butz and Kathy Uhlenhake, Moravia Legacy Committee members, and Ruritan members Esther West, Mark Uhlenhake and Ken Martin.

On May 3, Dogg’s in Iconium will be having a Sock Hop dance starting at 6 p.m. There will also be a Hula Hoop Contest, Best Dressed Contest and everyone is asked to bring their old cars to show. Proceeds will go towards a scholarship for a Moravia senior.

The Moravia Lady Mohawks are selling advertising banners for the light poles at the Lady Mohawk field. These are being sold to help the team make improvements on the field and buy new equipment. This is a great way to advertise your business, remember a loved one or to show family support for the Lady Mohawks. The cost of the banner is the same as they were 15 years ago and to purchase one contact a Lady Mohawk player or call 724-9000.

There will be a softball work day on the Lady Mohawk field on May 3 at 9 a.m. Coaches, players, parets are asked to bring a rake and join the fun.
