Hercules growth, international advertising

With the rapidly growing international sales of stump pullers, Miles Bateman and B.A. Fuller decided to retain the Taylor-Critchfield agency in Chicago to assist them to increasing their advertising, departing from the 12-inch ads in local papers. ....more>>

  • Politics and rabbits
For the first time in my adult life I am sick of politics. Usually during a presidential election, I am glued to any channel that shows the political scene; stuck on sites where you can get into rip-snorting arguments and discussions about the candidates; I even make phone calls for my choice.

  • Good memories of Mom this Mother’s Day
Mom told about how the summers of 1935 and 1936 were both hot and dry. In 1936 there was no rain from May until September. Then the winter of 1936-37 was unusual as ice covered everything for six weeks. We think we have had some bad weather but I guess it doesn’t hold a candle to those days.

  • Cincinnati Alumni Banquet to be held May 24
Please do not forget the Cincinnati Alumni Banquet to be held on Saturday, May 24th at the Manhattan Steak House. Call Gary Golic at 641-856-2684 for more information.

  • The compulsive reader
How long can a short story be? Or how short can it be? Some short stories are as long as novellas and others are so short they take less space than a well-told anecdote.

  • Today is 57th annual National Day of Prayer
Did you know there were several national days of prayer in the U.S. before the day was made official in 1952? The Continental Congress issued a day of prayer in 1775 to designate “a time for prayer in forming a new nation.”

  • New city maintenance
The city of Moravia has announced its new city maintenance employee, Russ Bayer of Eddyville has been hired for the position.

  • Join the fun at the 18-80 Club
We look forward to the nice weather to come and we will start the month off with May baskets at our May Day party today at 11:30 a.m. The menu for today is chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, scalloped corn, watermelon and muffins.

  • Wedding celebration brings chance to perform chicken dance
Last Monday I visited Centerville Nursing and Rehab as part of my new job with Hospice of Central Iowa. I took a few minutes to stop in and chat with Ethel Lira. She was very happy to see me and she looked great. I told Ethel that we all miss her and her words. If you are out that way stop in and smile with her.

  • Hercules stump puller - How does it work?
The first stump pullers were made of cast iron, which is very brittle. Since the machines were subjected to heavy strains, it was necessary to make the iron machines so large, heavy and cumbersome that they were too unwieldy for fast work.
