Suit filed against Edouard, church

Pella — Former Pella pastor Patrick Edouard is appealing his conviction for exploiting church members who sought counseling, but that's no longer the only court case with his name on it.

One of his accusers has filed a civil lawsuit claiming Edouard was shielded by the Covenant Reform Church's board of elders. The suit accuses the board of failing to investigate when informed of Edouard's behavior, and that the church misrepresented his actions to the congregation.

The suit quotes Clarence Hettinga as telling the plaintiff, "You are not victims," and that unless Edouard, "was holding a knife to her throat, it was not rape."

An unnamed board member is quoted as saying, "If Edouard goes to jail, there are four women who should go to jail."

Edouard has filed a counterclaim in the case.

So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
