Extend unemployment?

By Michael Schaffer Managing Editor
The Daily Iowegian

---- — The Daily Iowegian will publish an Editorial Question of the Week on the Opinion page.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the proposed extension of unemployment benefits for up to 1.3 million Americans. Are you one of those 1.3 million and you need unemployment benefits extended in order to make ends meet? Or are you earning a wage and see extended unemployment benefits as if it’s a permanent entitlement?

So, the question of the week is, “Should unemployment benefits be extended once again or have they gone on long enough?”

Go to the Daily Iowegian website, www.dailyiowegian.com, and scroll down the home page to POLL on the right hand side and cast your vote. Or call the Iowegian office at (641) 856-6336 or email the editor at iowegianeditor@mchsi.com to cast a vote.

Vote on the Question of the Week up until Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 12 p.m. The results will be published in the Thursday, Jan. 23 paper along with a new question.

Here are the results from the last poll question: “Should Centerville develop a policy that sets a permanent special assessment amount or should the amount of special assessment be determined by project circumstances?”

A. Determined by project circumstances received 27 votes.

B. Develop policy that sets a permanent assessment amount, like 25 percent, the maximum allowed by law received four votes.

C. Develop policy that sets a permanent assessment amount, but below 25 percent received 38 votes.
