Last Friday, Iowa’s Sen. Tom Harkin gave a speech from the Senate floor. He was addressing the most current fight-to-the-death squabble between Congressional liberals and conservatives. In that speech he issued the following warning; “It’s dangerous. It’s very dangerous. I believe, Mr. President, we are at one of the most dangerous points in our history right now. Every bit as dangerous as the break-up of the Union before the Civil War.”
It was the very first time that I found myself agreeing with Sen. Harkin. I had written the very same warning just 11 months earlier in a letter to the editor. We had both been correct in our assessments ... but we each represent opposing sides in this ever mounting conflict.
Harkin’s leftist ideologies and position of power have led him to play a very consequential role in the slow demise of a once great nation. “Progressives” have effectively gutted America of its soul and spirit. From A to Z ... federal laws and regulations have set the tone for the insanity we see today. Folks like Harkin and Obama view the Constitution as nothing more than a stumbling block along the road towards an all-encompassing, all powerful central government. He touts “democracy” because he believes the the Democrat Party has been successful in convincing the majority of Americans that total dependence on government ... from birth to death ... is the new American way. He shuns using the word “liberty” because an electorate that believes in freewill and personal freedom would put a quick end to his and his regime comrades’ political careers.
Constitutional conservatives have watched events over the past five years in horror. Enough has indeed became enough! We’ve drawn the famous line in the sand and are demanding that our congressional representatives finally take a stand. “Compromise” is not on the table. Negotiating with “progressives” is akin to compromising with the kidnapper of your children — instead of murdering them all he’ll settle for killing just two.
Unfortunately, most Americans are unaware of the situation that Tom Harkin and myself clearly see. My advice is to open your eyes, take a deep breath and chose a side and become active. You just might play a role in ending catastrophe before it occurs.
