I recently read a book entitled “If 7:14” by Bob VanderPlaats of the conservative Iowa Christian organization “The Family Leader.” Mr. VanderPlaats focused his book on the Bible quotation from 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sins and will heal their land.” He applied that Bible instruction to today’s America. He noted America with our values, our morals, and God’s righteousness are under attack.
What is happening in America is just not as blatant or as obvious as a single event such as 9/11 when everybody sensed the devastation. Our collective response to that attack was to fill the chapels and sanctuaries for prayer, comfort, blessing, and protection. The New York City fire department, police department, port authority, and countless others united on behalf of their fellow Americans. Our elected officials sang “God Bless America” on the steps of the U. S. capital.
Now Mr. VanderPlaats suggests the only hope for America is true and lasting change which can be realized through an authentic and vibrant Spiritual Awakening — a revival. There is need for personal revival, revival in our marriages and our families, revival in our churches, our communities and our country. Contrary to 9/11 when the news media covered the devastation, now the main stream media shields the attack and even celebrates the moral drift away from God.
God’s people must rise up join the 7:14 team and pray in unity. Perhaps our children and grandchildren will some day ask us “Where were you?” when they review this pivotal time in our country’s history and what action was taken when we witnessed things spinning out of control. Churches need to be engaged, Pastors need encouraged, family values need protected and defended. Civic, social and family leaders must consistently stand on truth.
