---- — Bill Radio with Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) said this week that there is little to report regarding the progress of his company's hydroelectric plant project at Lake Red Rock. Radio said bids are coming in for the plant's construction and that an announcement will be made March 27.
The announcement will likely either be to name the contractor awarded the project or the company's decision whether or not to move forward with the plant. Even if MRES chooses to not build the plant, Radio said representatives from MRES will still come to Pella to meet with local officials after the announcement. The City of Pella receives its energy from MRES, a change made after the company revealed its intentions to build a new power plant at Red Rock.
At the time of our conversation, MRES was expecting its 408 and 409 permits from the Army Corps of Engineers. One was expected this week, one next. These licenses deal with safety, which have been incorporated into the plans for the plant. Radio also believes the company's license to operate the plant is forthcoming.
