MARION COUNTY — Two semi trucks were involved in an accident around 2:40 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30.
Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt told the Journal-Express that one semi driver was eastbound on Highway G-76 at the intersection with HIghway 14 when it collided with another semi, which was northbound on 14. The northbound vehicle could not get stopped in time to avoid the collision.
In the photos, the blue semi is the one that struck the Hy-Vee truck, sending it into a nearby yard. Several food items were spilled from the truck's trailer. Another Hy-Vee truck arrived on the scene later.
One of the drivers was transported by Columbia Rescue to the Lucas County Health Center. The drivers' names have not been released and more information is expected to come from the Iowa State Patrol soon.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Division, the Iowa State Patrol and the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
