KNOXVILLE — Three vehicles were involved in two separate accidents around 7:40 a.m. Friday morning. Those involved refused transport, but the accidents could have been much worse.
Lt. Aaron Fuller of the Knoxville Police Department told the Journal-Express that a two-vehicle accident occurred in front of the Knoxville Middle School on Lincoln Street, in the outside southbound lane. One vehicle hit another from behind.
The drivers of these two vehicles had stepped out of their cars to discuss what had happened. At one point, they were standing between the wrecked vehicles, but stepped off to the sidewalk.
Moments later, a truck struck the vehicles, causing a separate accident involving all three. Fuller said the drivers avoided severe injury by moving on to the sidewalk. He wants to remind all drivers, if involved in an accident, not to stand in the road or between the vehicles involved for this reason.
The KPD and Knoxville Fire/Rescue responded. The accident remains under investigation. Drivers' names and any citations issued are expected to be received later today.
