Chariton Valley Planning & Development Council of Governments has completed and closed out the owner-occupied housing rehabilitation grant for the city of Seymour. Seymour completed the program with local funding and assistance of an IEDA grant that allowed for the rehabilitation of six owner-occupied homes.
The structures were inspected and the needs were identified that would ensure the selected low to moderate income families and/or individuals will be able live in quality housing that meets Iowa’s Minimum Housing Safety Standards.
“It is rewarding when you can assist homeowners with the installation of energy efficient windows, insulation, new roofing, vinyl siding and numerous other improvements to their residence at no cost to them.” states Nichole Moore, executive director of CVP&D. The program strives to improve the efficiency of the structure, to help residents lower their energy bills and create a more affordable and safer way of living.
The city and residents are also very pleased with the wonderful aesthetic value that has been added to many of the homes.
One of homeowner was quoted as saying, “They can already see an improvement to the utility bill in the first few months!”
That same homeowner was even able to provide some of their own money towards the completion of the exterior work to the home.
