CENTERVILLE — A reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the fire in the 300 block on North 12th Street on Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
At approximately 9:29 p.m. the Centerville Law Center received multiple reports of a fire in the alley behind the businesses on the west side of the Centerville Square. Upon their arrival officers found fire in the area of a trash dumpster with flames climbing the back wall of the building. Officers immediately began to evacuate the buildings. The Centerville Fire Department arrived on the scene and took control of the fire and contained it to a small area of the building preventing it from spreading to other buildings.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined and the Centerville Police Department is investigating. If anyone has information that could be helpful in this investigation please contact the Law Center at 641-437-7100 or the Tip Line at 641-856-3134.
Agencies assisting with the fire included the Centerville Police Department, Centerville Fire Department, Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, ADLM Emergency Management, Mystic Fire Department and First Responders, Moravia Fire Department and 1st Responders, Mercy Ambulance and Alliant Energy.
Chief of Police Tom R. Demry would like to thank the numerous citizens that noticed the fire and due to their rapid response helped keep the damage to a minimum. Those that assisted included Nick McCann, Troy Cassady, David Lewis, Travis Rash, Josh Simmons and numerous others.
