UPDATED 8:42 a.m.: Some churches canceling services after 5-6 inches of snow fall

CENTERVILLE — UPDATE 8:42 a.m.:The area received approximately 5-6 inches of snow from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Areas like Humeston in Wayne County received the bulk of the snowfall, as they reported 8 inches on Sunday morning. As of 8:44 a.m., Blockton received the most snow fall that has been reported thus far. A trained storm spotter reported that the Taylor County town received 9 inches of snow.

UPDATE 10:41 p.m.: Road conditions in the area have already deteriorated in the area as a brief wintry mix has roads covered in snow and ice. The second round is currently enterin the area and heavy snow will begin falling over night in Sunday morning, with accumulations from 6-10 inches possible in Appanoose and Wayne counties. UPDATE 3:53 p.m.: Forecasters are continually changing the estimated time that snow will begin falling in the area, with forecasts from the National Weather Service changing multiple times each hour. As of now, the weather service is expecting snow to begin falling at 5 p.m.

 

UPDATE 2:25 p.m.: An updated forecast has again changed the estimated time of arrival for the expected winter storm on Saturday. The National Weather Service now predicts a freezing rain shower around 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by a sleet/snow mixture beginning around 6 p.m. before the precipitation turns to all snow around 7 p.m. The latest accumulation estimation for the Centerville area is just under 7 inches by Sunday morning.
