MONROE – The Centerville Big Red basketball team traveled to Prairie City-Monroe on Friday for a South Central Conference matchup against the Mustangs.

Centerville trailed by just 13 points after three quarters of play before PCM went on a 27-5 run in the fourth quarter to take the 78-43 win.

“We came out ready to play and executed what we wanted to on both ends of the floor,” said Centerville head coach Jeff Moore. “We wanted to be close and have a chance late in the game. We held PCM’s leading scorers to a combined seven points in the first half and had four of their starters in foul trouble.

“We just wanted to maintain striking distance and we did that for three quarters. Unfortunately, it all fell apart in the fourth quarter. We just ran out of gas mentally and physically,” Moore said.

Mike Humphrey led the Big Reds with 12 points and eight rebounds while Denver Walker added eight points and seniors Nikhil Batra and Garrison Carter scored seven points each in the effort.

“I am very happy with the way we played, especially since PCM is a very difficult place to play. We have shown improvement over winter break and hope to go on a run in our next few games,” added Moore.

Centerville (2-6, 1-4) hits the hardwood again on Friday when they travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg.
