Corse Payton, as portrayed by an inspired Richard Talbot, said he was considered a town terror. The young Corse, at the age of 14, left Centerville and joined a traveling circus. At that age he knew acting was his calling. After returning back to Centerville he again at the age of 16 ran away and joined another circus. "I was always meant to be an actor," Talbot said about Payton. Payton's first wife was actress Etta Reed who passed away in 1915. Payton then married Henrietta Browne. Payton, who was born Dec. 18, 1866 in Centerville passed away Feb. 23, 1934 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Corse Payton is buried in Oakland Cemetery.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
