0422 Earth Day at Pioneer Ridge photo color -M

Earth Day was Saturda,y and some families went to Pioneer Ridge Nature Center to learn what grows outside and the reasons to pick up trash and other items that might foul the environment. Pictured are Noah Massey of Ottumwa and Kurt Baker, director of Wapello County Conservation. Baker told Massey about pollinators, such as butterflies, bumble bees and anything that travels from plant to plant. Baker also gave Casey a tube to put into the ground near a big bush. He told Casey to punch a hole in the ground with the right size for a small starter plant. Then he took the starter plant out of the tube and dropped it into the hole so growing could begin.
