Shelter educates public about domestic abuse

Centerville Mayor Jim Senior signed a proclamation Tuesday morning at Centerville City Hall declaring October Domestic Abuse Awareness Month. Linda Handling, the Monroe and Appanoose County advocate for victims of domestic assault and sexual assault from the Crisis Center and Women's Shelter in Ottumwa presented the proclamation to Senior.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about building code compliance. One Centerville resident at Monday's City Council meeting proposed the city create two new positions in the police department to only deal with minimum housing and nuisance abatement issues.
