Centerville students attend District FFA Convention in Earlham

Centerville students in attendance at the District FFA Convention in Earlham on Saturday, March 9 from left front row are Maranda Rupalo, Katie Bratz and Brett Bauman. From left back row are Hunter Moore, Shelby Thamke, Taylor Lawson and Arianna Litke. Maranda, Brett, Hunter and Katie competed in the Chapter Quiz and earned a silver. Shelby and Maranda were voting delegates for the Centerville chapter and Maranda's Iowa Degree was approved. As freshman, Taylor and Arianna were there to watch contests new to them and experience what a conference with over 500 students is like. The Centerville students were all there to support Hunter's run for District Sentinel. "Though unsuccessful this year he was a good sport and can't wait to run again next year. I am so proud of him and all he has accomplished. He gave a well performed and heartfelt speech and made his chapter proud," said Elizebeth Gaskins, Centerville Ag instructor and FFA advisor.

Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"

A. I support the ordinance
