50th anniversary to be observed

WELLMAN — Tom and Sue Thomas will celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house on Sunday, July 11 from 2-5 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church on 210 11th St., Wellman, Iowa 52356.

Sue Ann Wyldes and Thomas Charles Thomas, both of Centerville, were married July 23, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville.

Hosting the event are their children and family, Steve and Pam Thomas, Sharon and Rob Sprague, Paul and Diana Thomas, Keith and Dianna Thomas, Dave and Kelley Thomas and their eight grandchildren, Zach and his wife Jill, Danielle and her son Carter, Chris, John, Carson, Blake, Nicki and Madison.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the solicitation ordinance that will prevent groups or individuals from entering a roadway to solicit money. The Centerville City Council in June by a 5-0 vote passed the first reading of just such an ordinance. Public pressure and during a subsequent special meeting, the council voted 3-2 to table the ordinance. A second special meeting to discuss the solicitation ordinance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at City Hall. So, the question of the week is, "Do you or do you not support the ordinance to prevent solicitation of funds in city streets?"
